Review by Kalahari.net Charles Rose, Architect: Architect Some architects try to wow with kooky shapes and arcane theory. Not Charles Rose. You don't need a PhD in Frankfurt School philosophy to appreciate the work of this Massachusetts-based architect. His projects are simply beautiful. But as this, his first monograph, makes clear, simply beautiful work is not necessarily simple. Rose's architecture is characterized by warm, natural materials--"particularly wood--"that reflect his ecological sensitivity and attention to sustainability in building. The strength and apparent weight of these materials, however, belies a conspicuously dynamic architectural experience created by the movement of spaces, the integration of natural light into the fabric of his buildings, and a language of horizontal planes that extends a structure well beyond its boundaries and into the landscape. Review by Kalahari.net Erno Goldfinger: The Life of an Architect In writing this important new book, Nigel Warburton researched the extensive archive of Goldfinger's writing, office papers, models and drawings held in the RIBA Collection and also interviewed people who knew and worked with him. An intolerant and fiery man, Goldfinger gained the respect and grudging admiration of his peers and employees, and while his buildings have provoked controversy they are nonetheless powerful, expressive and individual. This book considers the man and his life as the motivation for his works, weaving anecdotes and first-hand materials into an insightful and extensive account that entertains and challenges readers as it informs. Review by Kalahari.net Taveira: Sports Architecture This title contains 11 projects of the architect's work in the sphere of sport. A number of the stadia have been built especially for the European Football Championships in 2004. Review by Kalahari.net The Architect
Presents a story of an extraordinarily talented architect whose clients are America's wealthiest families and a sociopath whose search for perfection leaves a trail of murders he considers work of art. This is a story of obsession that opens doors to secret corridors of power - and into the private quarters of the White House itself. Review by Kalahari.net
